Parts That Are Easily Overlooked in Car Maintenance, and Commercial Vehicles Need to Be Paid Attenti

Time: 2024-11-21 Source: Author: Caleb
In the eyes of many people, maintenance is nothing more than replacing consumables such as three filters and engine oil. In fact, many parts of the vehicle are constantly worn during operation, and the scope of daily maintenance inspection far exceeds three filters, engine oil, brake pads, spark plugs, etc. If you do not pay attention to inspection and maintenance at ordinary times, unexpected failures may sometimes occur.

Ignition wire

Many people know that spark plugs need to be replaced regularly, but they ignore the maintenance of other parts of the ignition system. The ignition high-voltage circuit is one of them. When the engine is running, there are often tens of thousands of volts of high-voltage pulse current on the ignition wire. Due to long-term work in a high-temperature, dusty, and vibrating environment, it is inevitable that it will age or even be damaged. Therefore, like spark plugs, it is also a consumable that needs to be replaced frequently. Aging and damage of the ignition wire will greatly reduce the ignition energy, increase fuel consumption, reduce the power of the engine, and in severe cases will cause fire to break, which is a fatal failure for the three-way catalyst engine. According to foreign experience, even if there is no fault, a set of ignition high-voltage wires needs to be replaced every 20,000 kilometers or so. However, many domestic car owners often wait until the engine is unstable or even unable to start before checking the ignition system, but at this time, the fuel wasted due to the potential damage to the ignition system components and the wear and tear on the engine has far exceeded its own value. In addition, the distributor cap, distributor, ignition coil, spark plug and other components in the ignition system should also be within the scope of daily maintenance inspection.

Brake disc

The brake disc and brake shoe are a pair of friction pairs. When the brake shoe is worn, the brake disc will also be worn, which is simple. However, many people only pay attention to replacing the shoe when maintaining the vehicle, but often ignore the replacement of the brake disc. The consequences of excessive wear of the brake disc are very serious. First, due to the reduction of surface flatness and the reduction of the actual contact area, the braking force is insufficient; in addition, the thermal capacity of the worn brake disc is reduced, and the temperature rises rapidly during continuous braking, which is more likely to cause thermal decay. All of these are very dangerous driving. Some repair shops put severely worn brake discs on lathes for surface treatment, commonly known as "disc type". In this way, the surface is flat, but the disc surface becomes thinner, and the thermal decay during braking will be more serious. In addition, the high temperature generated during the processing will cause the brake disc to temper, further reducing the mechanical strength. Generally speaking, the brake disc should also be replaced after the brake shoe is replaced 2 to 3 times. Don't worry about these hundreds of dollars. After all, human life is priceless.

Generator bearing

Nowadays, many repairmen are jokingly called "loaders", meaning that they only replace parts and cannot repair them. In fact, as long as some parts are maintained in accordance with regulations, the service life can be greatly extended, and the generator is one of them. A few years ago, the generator was still an expensive component in the car. At that time, there was a complete maintenance system for the generator in the automobile maintenance regulations, such as timely lubrication, replacement of bearings, adjustment, replacement of carbon brushes, adjustment of contact gaps, etc. Now, with the reduction of component prices, the daily maintenance of the generator has gradually been neglected. In fact, if the bearings are inspected and replaced in accordance with the above regulations, the service life of the generator can be at least doubled. Generally speaking, the generator should be overhauled after the vehicle has traveled 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers. In addition, the bearings of the water pump, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor should also be checked regularly.

Except for a few important electrical connectors that use gold contacts, most other connectors use copper-zinc alloy. Under normal circumstances, their reliability is guaranteed. However, if the vehicle is operated in a high temperature, high humidity, and bumpy environment for a long time, these connectors may have problems such as loosening, corrosion, and poor contact. Therefore, during daily maintenance, the connectors of the computer, sensor, nozzle and other components on the vehicle should be checked. If loose or rusty, it can be treated with vaseline or replaced with a new plug.

From the perspective of use, chassis components are actually more prone to problems than engines. The main components in the chassis that are prone to failure are:

Shock absorber

Oil leakage is a sign of shock absorber damage. In addition, a significant increase in bumps or a longer braking distance on bad roads is also a sign of shock absorber damage.

Suspension control arm rubber sleeve

After the rubber sleeve is damaged, the vehicle will have a series of faults such as sway, even if the four-wheel alignment is invalid. If you carefully check the chassis, it is easy to find that the rubber sleeve is damaged.

Steering tie rod

A loose steering rod is a serious safety hazard. Therefore, this component must be carefully checked during daily maintenance. The method is simple: hold the tie rod and shake it vigorously. If it does not shake, everything is normal. Otherwise, please replace the ball head or tie rod assembly.

Exhaust pipe

The exhaust pipe is one of the parts under the car that is particularly easy to damage. Don't forget to take a look during maintenance. Especially the exhaust pipe with a three-way catalyst should be carefully checked.
