Five Key Points for Car Battery Maintenance During Idle Period to Prevent Rust and Aging
1. Prevent metal rust
Corrosion is mainly caused by the combined action of water, oxygen and corrosive substances in the air. Therefore, for vehicles parked for a long time, the metal surface should be kept clean. The garage where the vehicle is parked should always be ventilated to keep the relative humidity of the air below 70. Dust, dirt and moisture on the car should be removed in time. Parts and parts surfaces that are prone to rust should be coated with oil stains, grease or oil paper. The pores on each assembly mechanism need to be sealed to prevent air, moisture and dust from entering the interior.
2. Prevent rubber products from aging and deterioration
Rubber products on cars, such as tires, drive belts, dust covers, etc., often age, expand or form, resulting in poor performance and short service life. For example, the aging of rubber products is mainly due to the fact that rubber belongs to unsaturated high molecular hydrocarbons, which are easily oxidized by absorbing oxygen in the air. At the same time, vulcanized rubber has a certain air permeability, and oxygen can easily enter the interior for oxidation. In particular, direct sunlight will accelerate the aging of rubber. When rubber products are contaminated by gasoline and engine oil, the volume will expand, the colloid will become loose, and the elasticity will decrease. To prevent rubber products from aging, avoid direct sunlight and contact with mineral oil.
3. Prevent cotton and hemp products from mildew
Mat and carpet are easy to absorb moisture. Especially in humid areas and rainy seasons, it is more likely to get damp and mildew. Therefore, car owners should frequently check the cotton and linen products in the car, dry them in time, and keep them dry.
4. Prevent the anti-knock performance of gasoline from decreasing
The anti-knock performance of gasoline depends on its octane number. When the car is parked for a long time, the octane number of gasoline will decrease with the loss of light components and the increase of colloid content, which will cause its anti-knock performance to decrease accordingly. Therefore, the fuel tank should be sealed to avoid excessive temperature. Do not store gasoline for too long.
5. Check the operation of the engine frequently
Start the engine at least once a month, idle for 4-5 minutes, and check the engine operation. If there is any abnormality, it should be adjusted and repaired in time. In addition, check the battery frequently. The electrolyte level of the battery should be 10-15mm higher than the plate. When the battery is insufficient, add distilled water in time to ensure sufficient power. If necessary, charge the battery.
